Hi!
First
of all I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year. I hope everyone enjoys their family and friends and has a
fabulously fun and successful 2008.
Ice fishing is taking off
here in the Glacial Lakes with about 13-14" thick ice. Only walking,
4-wheelers and snowmobilers have been safe so far for getting out on
the ice. There are soft spots and one of Gary's friends went in, up to
his neck. So do be careful. Just in case you wonder, he wasn’t
fishing with Gary…..One has to have a good sense of humor.
If
you are not familiar with fishing the Glacial Lakes, don't miss the
opportunity to fish with Gary, our exclusive guide. You will be glad
you took the opportunity……….to fish, not go swimming.
There are
walleyes, northerns, perch and some pan fish being caught on most of
the lakes. Weather has been pretty stable this week which has helped.
Hope you take a moment and join us up here in the Coteau Hills of the Glacial Lakes. It is beautiful country.
You
can also see more about fishing the Glacial Lakes on Tony Dean
Outdoors, PBS’ Prairie Television with Ted Takasaki and Tim Bakkan as
well as Al Lindner, Dave Genz, Bob Jensen with Fishing the Midwest,
Berkley Tackle, In-depth Angling, Clam Corporation and the Ice Team to
name a few.
Again, The Staff of Roy Lake Resort wishes all of you and your families a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year.

Ice is
running 9" to 12" or more. Driving is recommended by snowmobile or
4-wheeler. We have some warm weather right now so getting around by
truck in the slush might be a little slow.
Some
people are having a little trouble finding fish. Actually fishing is
doing well, but you must be welling to move around. Perch are biting,
as well as Northern and walleye as you can see by the pictures. These
pictures were caught the last couple of weeks with some caught
today......like the 12 1/2 pound Northern. Some 7-9 lb Northerns
coming in and a lot in 3-5 lb. range. I don't know about you, but
Northerns are my favorite fish to eat.
We
are seeing a good Northern bite primarily in the shallow bays. Use tip
ups and/or a jig with minnow or chub. Weather has been really nice for
fishing and a lot of people are bringing their kids and they are doing
great.
If
you haven't fished this area before and don't want to use a guide, I
invite you to meet Gary and he will be more than happy to tell you what
he knows and suggest where you should go. He may even let you follow
along. Of course, that is dependent upon what is on his schedule.
We
are taking reservations for the rest of the year, both fishing, family
recreation and hunting. We look forward to seeing you.
Check
out our web page to see more of our resort. Also check out our links
to Tony Dean, Al Lindner, Dave Genz, and others. That all have lots of
information to pass on.
If you are going to the Pheasant Fest in Minneapolis check out our booth and introduce yourself. We would love to see you.

You can even incorporate your pheasant hunt with
fishing and duck hunting. Corn is still coming off the field where
pheasant like to hide. You can find some more of our duck/goose
hunting pictures on our website www.roylakeresort.com. Pheasant hunter
numbers are slowing down and yet with all of the corn left to harvest I
expect we should still see great pheasant hunting, combine it with late fall fishing you will really be happy.
The
Fall has been an incredible one for us here at Roy Lake. The weather
has been magnificent for fishing in the late Fall. The Northern Ducks
have not made a major movement yet, but there were still plenty of them
to hunt.
We have had several triple slam days where we were able to
shoot our limits of duck, pheasant and still have time to catch our
limit of walleyes on some of the local lakes. Smallie fishing has been
outstanding also. Book now for some good winter fishing to come
shortly and it is never to soon to book for next Fall's great hunting
and fishing.

Pheasant hunter numbers are slowing down and yet with all of the corn left to harvest I expect we should still see great pheasant hunting, and as Joe says below, combine it with late fall fishing you will really be happy. Joe is a great guide.
Joe who guides out of the resort gave the following report along with some of the pictures.

We have had beautiful fall weather here in the Glacial Lakes of NE S.D.
The trees are turning, temperatures in the 70's for a high and 50's for a low...that is until today. It is 46 degrees today. This is very good Because the indian summer isn't good for getting a fall bite for good fishing. This should change over the next couple of days. Water temperatures have been running in the 60's and we need mid to high 50's.
Waterfowl hunting has been great and have enclosed some pictures to prove it. Warm weather isn't usually good for hunting either but everyone is still going strong.
I also enclosed a picture of a pheasant hunt that Joe guided for. Isn't it beautiful. In addiition to hunting for pheasant he was a guide for many of the guys you see in the pictures for fishing and some of the hunting pictures too. If you are interested in guiding packages give us a call and we will put it together for you. Pheasant numbers are up and should see good pheasant hunting this year as well as good numbers for spring turkey hunting. Give us a call if you want us to put together a package for either.
Enjoy the pictures and hope to be hearing from you soon.
